The club's Summer series kicks off with a 'sprint' style O at Salt Ayre Sports Centre near Lancaster, GR SD463624, on Wednesday 3rd June. Meet in the car park beyond the sports centre for starts from 6:30pm. A new map has been drawn for the event to almost sprint standards and includes a new area that doubles the size of the original map. Three courses are on offer; Yellow 1.6km, Orange 2.1km and Sprint 4.0km. The Yellow and Orange courses have been planned to avoid traffic while the Sprint course does cross roads within a housing estate. Training shoes recommended. Fees £ 2.50 Adults, £ 1 Juniors. Come and try some urban orienteering, all abilities welcome.

Fancy a bit of a change? Try orienteering on your bike at the Lakeland Lanequests, on Tuesday evenings in June and July. Following a well tried format of a two-hour score event, all on tarmac roads, this series has become ever more popular over recent years, with many foot orienteers joining in. For more details visit the Mint Cake MTB website. The first event is on 2nd June at the Strickland Arms, near Kendal.

Some interesting results - Peter Beighton as an M75 snatches the M55 prize, Steve Wrigley pushes Steve Wilson close in the Men Open class. Lawrence Johnson winning M12. Some excellent newcomer results - Lucy Culkin and Finlay Johnson coming out as winners! Prizes not collected so far can be claimed from Martyn Roome, or at the Club Picnic in July. Don't forget the next round of competition - the Summer Series starting on Wednesday 3rd June at Salt Ayre, Lancaster.

The Harvester is a 7 or 5 person relay event with both night and day legs. SROC won the handicap class a couple of years ago, and managed to field two teams last year, but alas no trophy. This year the event is to be held in South Wales on excellent terrain over 20/21 June, with the option of a middle distance race on the Saturday to make a weekend of it. SROC hopes to enter at least two teams again, and will organise transport if there is sufficient demand. Everyone camps together close to the start and finish. More details here. See this Message Board topic. Please contact Sarah Watkins if interested, as soon as possible. Everyone welcome!
