SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Spook O at Silverhelme

The ghosts and ghoulies were out and about in the woods of Silverhelme tonight, celebrating the annual SROC Spook O. A good turnout enjoyed finding crags and boulders whilst avoiding the marauding vampires as much as possible and the warming soup afterwards was very welcome. Results are on-line here.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Organiser's thanks to club members

"Many thanks to everyone who helped to put on today's event. I was always confident that I would have enough helpers on the day, and have the help I needed from club members who were involved in planning and preparing for the event over recent months.
It makes an organiser's task so much easier. I was able to concentrate on the unpredictable problems that inevitably crop up. How did we manage to not only successfully stage the event, win it too, and still be a small club! Just think how  we will do next year when we can concentrate on just the one objective, and the club will have me competing too.  I will write up a more detailed report in the next few days". Brian Jackson.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Compass Sport triumph for the host club SROC!

In a nail biting finish to a hotly contested Compass Sport Cup & Trophy Final today at Helsington the Trophy contest for small clubs resulted in a tie for first place between SROC and Interlopers. The tie-break rule was invoked, meaning that the score of the 14th best team member counted. Mike Johnson's 90 points was sufficient to clinch the victory for SROC. EPOC came third after leading for part of the event. In the Cup competition for large clubs SYO were third, LOC second and (small club choosing to run with the large clubs) FVO won at their first attempt. Individual and team results are now available.

SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Halton Permanent Orienteering Course Launch

The launch event was a resounding success, with over 50 people, both local residents and experienced orienteers from further afield, enjoying the chance to run on this new permanent course. The overall clear winner was David Hunt, visiting from Bristol Orienteering Klub, who netted all 27 controls in 38.33. Second was SELOC's Paul Turner in 44.11. Almost everyone made it back before the hour and so avoided penalty points. Results may be viewed here. Our photo (thanks Mark Edwards) shows the gathered throng just before the mass start.
