SROC Night Street League 7 at Kirkham

Accommodation for BOC
Anyone interested in staying near the New Forest for the British Champs might like to try Hoseasons, for caravans sleeping 4 or 6 people, on the Tall Trees site near Christchurch in Dorset. They cost £ 116.29 for 3 nights (Fri, Sat Sun) and sleep 4 in beds (6, if you use the settees as well). Look on the Hoseasons web site for more information about location and facilities. If you want to book, please do so yourselves, using the no. 0844 847 1356, payment is on booking. Mike and Mary have found this site and will book a van. If booking please let Mary know as she would like to arrange a "Jacob's Join" or something sociable for the Saturday evening.

Club Handicap results
Club members (and a few guests) enjoyed a testing set of courses in Wellington Wood today, thanks to planner Julian Lailey and Handicapper Dick Collins. Possibly a record number of courses (48!) had been planned to cover all abilities. In the end talented junior Helen Ockenden just beat experienced senior Jane Anthony to the finish. Results may be viewed here, and RouteGadget is here.

Club Handicap & annual prizegiving and social Saturday 10th January 2009
This is shaping up into the most-not-to-miss event of the year! With individually planned courses to match everyone's exact state of fitness and experience (allegedly!) on an area that no-one can remember having run on before, plus all the fun and excitement of a mass start. Added to that there is the social afterwards, with activities to suit all and the chance to pick up a prize or two. Ideally you should let Julian know of your intention to run (01524 845990), and don't forget to bring some food for the Jacob's Join. Registration from 1pm, mass start 2pm. More details and map link on the fixtures page.

Photos and route analysis at the New Year Cracker
Martyn snapped a friendly robin at the New Year's Day event and offers this caption for the photo on the right: "Robin reliant on orienteering control for higher perches." Both the winners of the open classes on long score have added their routes to RouteGadget. See which way Iain Smith-Ward (M40) and Zoe Harding (W16) went, and add your own routes.

8th New Year Cracker - results
Congratulations to all those who braved the icy start to enjoy a perfect Winter's day at Low Park today. The unusual score format caught only a few of you out. Some didn't realize that they could take controls in any order provided the relevant master control had been punched, and just one or two managed to punch one of the "decoy" controls, losing 20 points thereby! Provisional scores on your printout have been checked, and in some cases reduced where controls were taken too early, ahead of the master (or in one case where the master was missed entirely). We have left the splits files unaltered to allow full comparisons. Our apologies for anyone surprised to find one control without a flag, and for the queue formed at download. A new software upgrade caused us problems, and meant that your split times were not on your printout. However, all are now visible in the results here. RouteGadget is also available.
