CompassSport Qualifier Confirmed
I now have confirmation we will be competing on Sunday 23 February in the SELOC round at Clowbridge (south of Burnley), against WCOC, LOC, MDOC and DEE. We need to beat two of these to qualify for the Final. Please let Captain John know by email as soon as you can whether you are or are not able to run. We will need a big strong turnout. Morecambe Urban - Entries open
The event is in the final 2024 NWUL (NorthWest Urban League). It takes place on Sunday 1st December. All courses use the pedestrianised town centre and surrounding residential streets as well as passing iconic buildings such as The Midland Hotel and Winter Gardens. Autumn Series event 2, Beacon Fell
With well over 100 competitors this could be the most popular SROC local event yet! A good mix of seasoned orienteers and newcomers/returners enjoyed the perfect conditions at Beacon Fell today. Results are om-line here, and RouteGadget here. There was one item of lost property not yet accounted for: a compass was handed in by a competitor who found it somewhere on the fell. OMM Elite Win for SROC Member!
Philip Rutter, running with Finlay Wild, won the Elite OMM last weekend in Glen Artney!

It was a closely-fought battle. They were in second place on the first day, only 1 minute behind the leaders. On the second day they overtook and ended up 1st overall by less than 2 minutes in 11 and a half hours of racing.
This is an amazing result in the UK oldest Mountain Marathon.
Congratulations to other SROCers too for great results, including Matt Cochrane, Karen Nash and partner Rowena Browne and Calvin Routledge. Apologies to others who I will have missed.

New season of Night Street League events now under way.
The first event in the new season was held last night on the St Annes map, and also included the Tower Trophy for the best performance at a nominated event near or in Blackpool. RouteGadget is ready for your routes, and results will be published following final checking.

The sun shone and the newcomers came to enjoy some real orienteering in the lovely Happy Mount Park in Morecambe today. The encampment of Normas had little effect on proceedings, but the one control site which clashed with an archery range did come a cropper as a result. Results are on-line here. Stanley Park results
Evening sunshine after a showery day was most welcome for the select few who ventured to Blackpool today for the third in the current Summer Series of sprint events. The results, including series scores to date, have been published. Anyone who missed this event missed two great courses.
Stanley Park, Blackpool
The next event in the 2024 Summer Series is in the splendid Stanley Park in Blackpool, Tuesday 4th June. Final details for the event have been published, and on-line entries remain open up to 9pm on the evening before the event.
Happy Mount Park
A new map, some new terrain and a warm evening all helped the runners to appreciate Rowena's courses at the second summer sprint event of the season. Results, including series scores, are on-line here.
Wellington Wood
Runners were blessed with a beautiful warm and sunny evening, and a Bluebell carpeted would to enjoy to boot. Results are on-line here.
Summer Sprint series
Final Details have been published for the Wellington Wood event on Tuesday 7th May, the first in the SROC Summer Sprint series. Entries are open on SiEntries, up to 21.00 on Manday 6th May, so long as we have maps available. Enter now to be sure of a place.

Williamson Park Spring Series event
Despite an amber weather warning for strong winds the latest SROC event went ahead mainly in susshine with a stiff breeze. Paricipants varied from first-timers to old hands, and all seemed to enjoy the challenges of navigating around the park. Results are on-line here and RouteGadget, where you can view others' routes and add your own, is here. There was a small amount of lost property found around the start area. If you have lost a hat or a glove please email results@sroc.org with a description of the item.
Night Street League Finale
The eleventh and final event in the 2023-2024 NSL season was held in warm but wet conditions from the Water Witch in Lancaster, followed by the annual league prizegiving. Carnforth street league event
Last night saw the 9th night street league event in the current season, held on a new Carnforth map. The weather was kind and a good turnout enjoyed the course planned by John Embrey. RouteGadget is ready for your routes. League tables will be updated in due course.
SROC in the CompassSport final!
SROC hosted an extremely successful qualifying round for the national clubs championships, the CompassSport Cup for large clubs and Trophy for smaller clubs. Interesting courses were made even better by early Spring weather, most folk completing their runs in sunshine.In a close fought match LOC took first place with in the Cup with 2458 points, followed by WCOC on 2413 and DEE on 2316. In the Trophy competition SROC on 1288 points were just ahead of BL who scored 1278, and PFO on 1241.
There were some fine individual performances on the SROC team with maximum points going to David Roome, John Embrey (club captain), Ben, Ellie, Maisie and James Todhunter and Martyn Roome. See all the results, both team and individual here. RouteGadget is here.

Club Handicap, Brinscall Woods Saturday 2oth January
The harsh weather only put off a couple of runners and a very strong turnout enjoyed the sometimes slippery and windy conditions at Brinscall today. John Embrey, paying pennance for his win at the handicap last year, produced both a new map and a new type of score event for the delight of the gathered throng.
