SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Caton Moor snowbound

This is the scene that club members would have witnessed had the Club Handicap gone ahead today, Saturday 9th January. Thanks to Quentin Harding for testing the conditions last Thursday, and providing this image and more in the gallery. Quentin reports "The views were superb and worth the effort of getting there. The area to be used was about 4" deep in a light powdery snow that was quite easy to traverse. Unfortunately many of the features were under the snow but that would have been the planner's problem distinguishing a tussock from a boulder. It was a still sunny day and -2 C. Unfortunately it was a long run (3.3km) and climb from the church hall. The road up is quite icy and it would only need one incident to totally block the road. There was only limited parking space at the top of the hill. Had the wind been like the previous day there would have been a severe wind chill..." Let's hope we can get up there on 23rd January!
