LONG RACE SUN 23RD JAN TARN HOWS / BLACK FELL / LOUGHRIGG FELL

Due to the snow and ice shenanigans of last year we have chosen areas of woodland and lower-level open fell. The courses will take the form of a one-way journey from Tarn Hows back to Ambleside.

Parking: public car parks in Ambleside.

Registration: 09.00-10.00. Lakes Climber and Runner / Bilbo’s Cafe, 3-4 Cheapside, Ambleside, LA22 0AB.

Start: Short course from registration. Long / medium at Tarn Hows main car park. Start times 10.00-11.00. Start when you are ready. Runners should make arrangements to fill and share cars from Ambleside to the start, either before the event or at registration. Drivers should arrange to be ferried back to collect their cars after the event. This arrangement has worked well in the past, but if things go wrong and a few people get stranded, the organisers will help with lifts. Please pay the normal parking fee at Tarn Hows (free for NT members).

Courses: Long 15km, Medium 11km, Short 7km. Courses close 14.00, you must be back by then even if you have not completed the course. Please enter a course that should not take you longer than 3 hours.

Finish: Lakes Climber and Runner / Bilbo’s Cafe. Bilbo’s Cafe will serve a meal to all runners – hot drink, stew, cake at a subsidised price of £2. Prizegiving 14.00 or earlier. Sport Ident timing. Maps 1:12500. Double-sided A4. There will be sections on public roads / footpaths linking areas. Please beware of traffic, especially on the main road crossing Skelwith Bridge (no pavement) and crossing roads in Ambleside.

Requirements: thermals, full windproofs, hat, gloves, food, whistle. Phone optional. No dogs. Walls and fences only to be crossed at gates / stiles.

Entries: as above.
