I tried to keep the planning simple by keeping the number of controls down to 61 and one temporary stile. Everyone seemed enjoy themselves, even on Short Green where later legs were a bit orange and the planning would have benefited from a stile to take you in to the complex moonscape further north.
Apologies to Robin Thomas for the problem he had at control 4 on Blue (104). I had tagged the wrong thicket. Anne put me right on this but I failed to find the tag when I went to remove it when I put the control out (on the correct thicket). Robin went to the same wrong thicket, found my tag with 104 on it and assumed that the control had been stolen. Anne went out and found the tag without any problems!
Thanks to Anne Wilson for controlling the event with great care, Alex Finch for reformatting the map and getting everything ready for Print5 whilst I was on holiday, Roy McGregor and Juliet for organising but particularly for dealing with the temporary stile, and to Frances Watkins, Julian Lailey, Katy Jonas, Philip Gager and Bill Hyslop for collecting the controls. Thanks that the weather wasn’t like the previous Sunday.
Let’s hope we can persuade English Nature not to be so over-cautious so that we don’t have to wait another five years before we have another event on this wonderful area, and that more than 200 competitors will be allowed to enjoy it.
