SROC - Red Rose Orienteers 61th AGMJohn Embrey won gold medal in M65 in the World Masters Orienteering Championships in Spain yesterday. He also won in 2024 - what an achievement! Well done to the other 7 SROC members who are also at the event.
What a result! W16 girls take 6th place in the European Youth Orienteering Championships anchored home by SROC's Ellie Todhunter! Well done!
.... this time for the England team for JHI in South Wales on 11-12 October - Congratulations !
The fifth and final summer series event was held in Kendal this evening. Runners had to contend with a complex urban landscape and some expert planning to get the most from the area. This event was a counter in the North West Urban League. Results are on-line here, and RouteGadget is here. The final league tables will follow soon.
Latest series tables after four events, and RouteGadget for the Cottam event, are now available via the Results Page.
Congratulations to :
Ellie Todhunter for selection to the Czechia M/W16 training camp in August
Fay Thomas for selection to the Lagganlia M/W14 training camp in July
Results for event 3 in the Summer Series are on-line here. Apologies for the control (158) which was not in sync. An adjustment has been made to make your splits more realistic.
Congratulations to Ellie Todhunter, who has been selected in the GB team for the European Youth Orienteering Championships at Brno, Czechia from 17-20 July 2025
The dry, sunny weather continues, and this helped to make a great success of the first event in the new series. Graham's new map and Rowena's courses were appreciated by the mixture of experts, improvers and outright beginners present. Results are here, and RouteGadget is available here.
No sooner has our successful spring series finished with a bang and a picnic last Saturday, than our next series of events is taking shape. We have our usual sprint series starting on Tuesday evenings from May to July.
The first event is next Tuesday May 6, the day after the bank holiday and it is taking place at Halton near Lancaster. Meet at the Greyhound pub there and starts for the prologue are between 6.30 and 7. You can choose to just do the prologue or the prologue and the final. And if you do choose to do both, you can decide whether to start the final in the chasing start or by yourself/in your group beforehand.
Food is available up until 8.45 if you wish to stay for this after the event.
Further details and to enter do visit the fixtures page and enter via SI entries
Today's Spring Series event in Eaves Wood attracted a high number of competitors, both experienced orienteers and relative beginners. Shame about the earlier-than-forecast rain. Results are available to view here, also RouteGadget.

Today saw the last event in the current season of night street league events, with a chance to run again on some surprisingly hilly parts of Lancaster. Did anyone miss the extra bonus points for the John o' Gaunt control? RouteGadget for tonight is here. Interest now moves to the standalone league finale event next Wednesday in Feniscowles. It's a 7pm mass start, followed by the annual prize giving.
Results are on-line here. Next week sees the last league event in the current series, in Lancaster. The standalone finale is in Feniscowles the Wednesday after. Don't miss either event!
2nd place today behind WCOC. Well done everyone.
Put Redcar Sunday 14 September in you diaries now for the Final.
I have clarification from the organisers.
ALL walls and fences (other than ruined ones) must only be crossed at marked gates / stiles / crossing points. Some, but not all, will be overprinted in purple but ALL (apart from ruined) are subject to the "only use mapped crossing points" restriction.
Congratulations to Heather Roome on winning w40 at Touch Estate, Scotland.
Results are available here

A reminder to all that the entry fees for the JK at Easter, in / north of Sheffield, go up after 31 January. If you are intending to go and have not yet entered you will save a few £ if you enter this week.
The same applies to the British Long Champs, in Grizedale on 10 May.
All members are reminded that the fiercely fought club handicap event takes place on Saturday 1st February. Runners are handicapped, thereby running different courses, so that the first to finish is declared the winner. This year we have use of Alex's new map of an area not orienteered in for many, many years. After the race, we will have the usual social with annual prizegiving and Jacob's join meal. Click here for the final details. If not yet entered, follow this link to the Google form, and don't delay!
Unfortunately Forestry England have refused us permission to use Whitbarrow for our proposed National event on March 9 so very reluctantly we have had to cancel the event.
Just a heads up about this event which is being organised by Steve Wilson who is a PFO member. The event is both a PFO and an SROC event. It will be pre entry via SI entries and it would be appreciated if as many people as possible do take the option to pre enter. Entry on the day is also available as usual but the fee will be £5 for members and £6 for non members just as a one off for this event.
Due to icy conditions, both LOC Tarn Hows night event on Saturday 11 January and Helm Hill Runners Giggleswick race on Sunday 12 January have been cancelled.
Tarn Hows NW night league event has now been rescheduled for Saturday 25 January.
Following the decision to postpone tonight's event we have decided to reschedule to next Tuesday January 14. This is to avoid a clash with the LOC event in Kendal on the Wednesday. All other details remain the same.
A late inspection of Heysham's streets has revealed treacherous icy conditions on a large part of the area, making it advisable to postpone the event. This was all because of an overnight fall of snow and or hail, which is unlikely to melt in time for the event today.
Just to let people know that there will be an inspection of the local pavements in Heysham tomorrow morning and a decision will be made then regarding the safety of continuing with the event as planned or postponing it to the following week.
Results from today's well-attended event at Lancaster University may be perused here.
