From Colne/M65: Leave M65 at J10 and follow signs to Towneley Park. Enter the park via the main gate on Todmorden Road. Nearest post code BB11 3ES.
O-signed from here. Follow the park road then fork left to the Riverside Car Park.
From Rossendale/the South: Go to the A682/A646 junction (south of the M65). Follow the A646 in an easterly direction to the traffic lights at the junction with the A671. Turn left here onto Todmorden Road and follow the A671 towards Burnley for just over one mile. Turn right into the main gates of the park. Nearest post code BB11 3ES. O-signed from here. Follow the park road then fork left to the Riverside Car Park.
Registration: Open between 10 am and 12 noon, with starts from 10:30 until 12.30.
Fees: £8.00 for adults on Blue, Green, Lt Green. (with £2.00 discount for BO members)
For adults on Orange, Yellow and White courses the fee will be £3.00. This is a change(reduction) from the previously stated fee. There will be no £2.00 discount for adult BO members on these courses.
£3.00 for juniors/students on all courses.
Dibber hire available - £1.00 for seniors; free for juniors (£30.00 charge if lost).
Courses: White, Yellow, Orange, Lt Green, Green + Blue.
Terrain:
Towneley Park (new map of the whole park 1:10,000): Mixed parkland of fast open, rough open, young plantation and mature forest, plus areas of contour and vegetation detail. Streams, ponds and marshes.
Towneley Colliery (map 1:5,000): Green and Blue courses visit the old colliery (road crossing time omitted). Some intricate mining detail in mature woodland.
Explanation of courses; but help and advice will also be available on the day.
White = very short and very easy - suitable length for very young children with adult help or for beginners; again children may need some help if they are beginners.
Yellow = a little longer and easy - suitable for child/adult beginners or confident children on their own if they have some orienteering experience,
Orange = moderate difficulty and length, suitable for adult beginners.
Dogs: Dogs not allowed on courses. Dogs are permitted in the park on leads. Please always clear up after your dog.
More Information: Towneley Park Cafe (in the car park) serves hot and cold drinks, toasties, pies and snacks. Children's playground nearby. Towneley Hall Cafe will also be open.
