Results for the White Coppice events held yesterday are on-line here, and RouteGadget is here. The weather forecast was ‘Changeable’ for Saturday 9th Nov. and this proved to be accurate – sun (while I put out the controls), rain and heavy hail squalls during the event and thunder and lightning when we brought in the controls!
Thanks to all who ignored the forecast and came along and, according to the comments at the finish, enjoyed the event. White Coppice is a challenging area: steep hillside, featureless marshes, deep tussocks and an ‘interesting’ woodland but, by using sheep trods and walls, the route choices are there (SROC - perhaps a map update is needed).
At least this event went ahead – the last event I planned was cancelled because the forest was blown down during the 1987 storm!
Also, thanks to all my helpers; Jennifer on Registration, John directing car parking, Cherith, Maurice and Jane at the Start, Peter on Finish duty, Bob on Results, and Karen, Tony, Rowena and Jane collecting in controls during the thunder and lightning.
Additional thanks to Tony for his help checking controls prior to the event and Graham Eccles for being my Sherpa, carrying the equipment whilst I put out the Kites and SI units (on his return from his Himalayan expedition).
