SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) SROC Summer Series announced

With the Tuesday evening sessions at Ripley School temporarily suspended for the exam season we have instead a series of events of varying formats spread over several Tuesdays in May, June & July. The first is in Wellington Wood on 25th May, a small but interesting patch of woodland near Lancaster, little used for many years apart from the club Handicap last year.

We then move to Williamson Park on 8th June where there will be a choice of Long or Short - make your choice on the way round! The Long will be a good test of stamina and speed, and should take you to one or two places in this Edwardian showcase of a park hitherto unvisited by orienteers.

The following week (15th June) sees a return to the excellent sprint location of Salt Ayre & Scale Hall. The similarity between this area and the acclaimed Astley Village estate used for the British Sprints is remarkable. Relive the sprint champs with a prologue race followed by a reverse-order-start final, with butterfly loops to discourage following. Don't be put off by the "sprint" designation. Anyone can run these courses, not just the fastest sprinters.

Lancaster University is the venue for another sprint race on 29th June and the final event in the series will be at Beacon Fell on 6th July. This will offer a choice of colour-coded courses. Prizes for series winners (rules to be published later) will be presented at the Club Picnic. Don't miss the chance to score some points - come to all the events!
