Details of the new orienteering league for NW level B events, which will start in 2011, have been announced. SROC's Hutton Roof event in February will be part of this league.

The Rules of
The North West Orienteering League

1. The League shall be called the North West Orienteering League.

2. The League will comprise a series of events, agreed by an NWOA Club Delegate Meeting, and held within a calendar year.

3. The League will be open to all members of British Orienteering.

4. The series of events, which will be advertised at the beginning of the year, will comprise a mixture of disciplines, including Long Distance, Middle Distance, Sprint and Urban events.

5. All events registered in the North West Region as Level B in the British Orienteering Event Structure will normally be included in the League, unless the Regional Fixtures Secretary or the organising club decide otherwise. Any Level A events taking place in the North West will also be considered for inclusion.

6. Separate competitions will be held for men and for women, and for each standard, 5 year age class for seniors and 2 year age class for juniors.

7. The total score for each competitor will be the sum of his/her best 4 scores, subject to at least one score coming from a Middle Distance, Sprint or Urban Event.

8. Scores from each event will be the Ranking Points allocated by the BOF Ranking Scheme, except for juniors of M/W16 and younger. Competitors may therefore run any course and be competitive, provided they obtain Ranking Points.

9. Juniors of M/W16 and younger will be awarded points as follows: 1st 100; 2nd 95; 3rd 91; 4th 88; 5th 86; 6th 85; 7th 84, 8th 83, 9th 82; 10th 81 etc. All competitors in these age classes must run the designated course for their age class to be competitive.

10. The competition area for all League events shall be embargoed for 12 months prior to the event, unless the NWOA co-ordinator of controllers has agreed to a relaxation of this Rule, in which case the organiser shall state in the pre-event publicity the dates of all events held on the competition area in the previous 12 months.

11. All events in the League will appoint very experienced planners and organisers; controllers shall be Grade A or B, and not from the organising club.

12. Results displayed on the day at League events shall include the age class of all competitors.

13. Results of League events shall be available on a website by the next day and on the British Orienteering website within 7 days.

14. Results of League events shall be submitted to the British Orienteering Ranking Scheme within 7 days.

15. Maps for League events shall be to the IOF International Standard for the relevant discipline, up to date, and printed by an accredited printer.

16. Start times at League events shall be pre-allocated; start blocks shall not be used. Competitors from the same club on the same course shall start at least 4 minutes apart.

17. Organisers of League events shall publicise which courses juniors of M/W16 and younger must run in order to be competitive in the League.

18. Final event details shall be published at least 7 days before the event.

19. These Rules may be amended as necessary by an NWOA Club Delegate Meeting, or by the NWOA Executive, subject to the approval of the next Club Delegate Meeting.
