SROCkite.gif (2521 bytes) Yarrow Valley Spring Series event

Over 60 orienteers joined us for the final instalment of the SROC spring series at Yarrow Valley in Chorley on a calm and muggy day.

Each of the courses took in a mixture of undulating trails, some carpeted in bluebells and wild garlic, denser woodland, and some open spaces around the Lower Burgh meadows.A few young orienteers met face to face with an assertive swan, while the eagle-eyed may have spotted the new brood of coot chicks swimming on the Lodge. Orienteers on the Long Yellow course took care with path choices and followed a variety of control types close to some hilly trails threading their way around the park. Green course participants enjoyed a mixture of some faster zigzagging across the meadow paths, and also ventured further into the depths of Plock Wood to the north. With apologies, the mapping here was more challenging and dated in places, with more considerable undergrowth giving a tougher fight than planned on a couple of legs. Runners on the Score course had up to 60 minutes to visit 25 controls in the middle and southern sections of the map, with some quick times posted.

It was lovely to see a mix of experienced orienteers supporting the event as well as some new faces and also some families fairly new to the sport. We hope you enjoyed it and that we may see you all again soon. It was good to catch-up for a chat at the Club picnic that followed. Thank you to the team of volunteers helping on the day.
